Reusable Nespresso Capsules: What to Consider Before Choosing
Materials, sealing, temperature and extraction quality: how to choose a reusable system and save on coffee capsules.
When looking for an alternative to single-use coffee capsules, saving money is important. But a reusable capsule must also be designed to work properly with the machine and allow for good coffee extraction.
Not all solutions are the same. Materials, geometry, sealing systems and coffee preparation can all influence the result in the cup.
1. The capsule material
Reusable capsules can be made of stainless steel, aluminium or plastic materials.

2. Brewing temperature

3. The sealing system

- Aluminium foil applied during preparation.
The geometry of the seal and the distribution of the holes can influence the path of the water and how the coffee is extracted.
A sealing system designed for the capsule must allow water to pass through the coffee along the intended path.
4. Controlling the extraction
Coffee quality does not depend solely on the machine’s pressure.
The amount of coffee, grind size, tamping and the way water passes through the coffee also play an important role.
A reusable system should allow the capsule to be prepared correctly and consistently.
